COMEBA, jointly with the Lebanese Badminton Federation (LBF), recently
organised the first edition of its Mediterranean Open Championship.
The Championship was played on an Individual basis and was spread over the
traditional five categories, namely: Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and
Women’s Doubles as well as Mixed Doubles.
For the second consecutive year, COMEBA is implementing its Itinerant Coach
Project with the technical and financial support of the Badminton Europe
Confederation (BEC).
The project is once again intended to provide a qualified and experienced coach
who would be able to visit, on request, each COMEBA member federation to conduct
a week's Training Camp for the better players and coaches.
Preference will be given to the developing National Federations / Associations
within the COMEBA membership structure and priority will be allocated to
training camps for junior players as well as their respective coaches.
During the week's stay as a guest of a particular National Federation /
Association, the coach may also use any extra time at his disposal to visit
local schools in order to promote Badminton among the students and their PE
teachers.
COMEBA will cover the return air travel costs for the visiting coach as well as
his / her remuneration for the Training Camp.
The hosting federation is expected to cover the full-board accommodation cost
for the coach in a local three-star hotel. It must also provide all internal
transport (including airport transfers) as well as the necessary sports hall,
shuttlecocks etc...
Those member federations, which are interested in participating in this project,
are required to submit a written request with the following data:
The dates when they would like the coach to be available;
A general outline of the Training Camp, including information about the
prospective participants and the training schedule to be followed;
Any particular topics that they would like the coach to tackle during the Camp.
This project manifests the existing synergy between COMEBA and BEC as well as
their joint commitment for the continued development of Badminton in the
Mediterranean region.
Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received and must
reach the Secretary General of COMEBA by not later than the 31st March 2009.

The Moroccan Badminton Federation, in
collaboration with COMEBA, is organising the above-captioned event in
Marrakech from the 17th to the 22nd February 2009 inclusive.
The event will be played on an Individual
basis and will consist of the following categories:
Men's Singles.
Women's Singles.
Men's Doubles.
Women's Doubles.
Mixed Doubles.
A parallel competition, comprising the
same five categories, will also be held for participants aged Under-17
years.
This is the latest of the projects implemented
by COMEBA during 2008.
It is intended to provide COMEBA member
federations with good quality racquets, for beginners and intermediate-level
players, at very competitive prices. These racquets are ideal for clubs as well
as for distribution in schools.
COMEBA and Badminton Europe join forces in a
Mediterranean Venture.
COMEBA is currently managing, jointly with
Badminton Europe (BE), a five-month regional project for its members.
Earlier this year, COMEBA invited its member
federations to apply for the staging of a seven-day Training Camp in their
respective countries aimed at the further development of their junior and senior
players as well as of their coaches.
Seven national associations applied to
participate in the project.
